Poster Presentation and Cross-Cultural Educational Exchange

When we arrived in Sakado on the first day, specifically at our school, Tsukusaka Senior High School, SEA-Teacher participants were given a task, to create a poster comparing the implementation of education in Japan and home country. Preparation began about three days before the event. Nabil and I started by drafting a poster outline on Canva to visualize how we wanted the design to look. We also looked for additional references regarding how education in Japan leans more towards a teacher-centered approach, heavily utilizing chalk and blackboards, but in Indonesia applies a more student-teacher-centered system and frequently uses presentation slides for learning.
Once our design was ready, we initially thought we could simply print it out and stick it to the wall. However, it wasn't that simple. We were provided with a large poster board and had to attach our work to it. Nabil and I realized that if we just printed the design as a single page, it would look much too small on the board. In the end, we decided to separate the design elements, printing the title and other components individually. After finalizing the plan and design, we asked for Arum-sensei help to print them. We then spent hours cutting and pasting the pieces onto the poster template. Time flew by, and even though it was getting late into the night, we remained enthusiastic. We finally finished assembling our poster late at night.
The day of the poster presentation finally arrived at the school gymnasium. The event was opened by Tatemoto-sensei, who invited us, the SEA-Teacher participants, to introduce ourselves to the audience. After the opening remarks, we grabbed our poster and stick it to a display board. During the lunch break, a crowd gathered at our booth, eager to learn about the implementation of education in Indonesia and how it differs from Japan. Once the time for the poster exhibition was up and the event was officially closed by Tatemoto-sensei, we packed up our poster and returned to our room at the school.
Shortly after, we were informed that we needed to attend av meeting with individuals connected to the Tsukusaka school network to share insights about the education systems in our home countries. We were divided into two groups, with the SEA-Teacher participants mixed evenly between them. We shared stories about the education systems in our respective countries and discussed our motivations for joining the SEA-Teacher program. The sharing session went on for a while before eventually wrapping up. We concluded the day by enjoying some tea and snacks together as the session came to a close. Afterward, we headed back to the dormitory to get some well-deserved rest.
